A Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship is for candidates in a first-line management role, with operational and project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome. They provide direction, instructions, and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Working in the private, public, or third sector and in all sizes of organisations, specific responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed will be the same whatever the role.

Key responsibilities in a Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship will likely include supporting, managing, and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally.

Assessment

The EPA assessment period will last around 4 months

Submit a portfolio of evidence of their best work
(they will work on this throughout the learning phase of their apprenticeship)
20% towards the final grade.
Assessment of knowledge through a test using scenarios, questions and responses
30% towards the final grade.
Assessment of competency through competency based interview
30% towards the final grade.
Meet with the independent assessor to have a Professional Discussion underpinned by the portfolio of evidence
20% towards the final grade.

The Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship training will enable your apprentice to:

  1. Your apprentice will be able to lead teams with emotional intelligence, understanding their own unconscious bias and being focused on inclusivity

  2. Managing their team through recognising learning styles and how each team member takes feedback best to get the best response from them

  3. They will be able to use recognised techniques and tools to prioritise activities, manage their time and purposefully approach planning

  4. Understand problem solving and decision making techniques as well as collating and analysing data to base their decisions on and reporting to management

  5. They will be able to communicate organisational strategy and team purpose adapting their style to suit their team audience to get their buy in and commitment

  6. Support the development of the team - setting goals for them inline with operational needs then monitoring progress, providing clear guidance and feedback, coaching and motivating them to achieve

  7. Use role modelling values and behaviours to manage change effectively

  8. Building trust across the team and with customers using effective negotiation and influencing skills, and managing these relationships and any conflicts

  9. Identify and share good practice across teams

  10. Able to communicate effectively (verbal, written, digital), chair meetings and present to team and management

  11. Deliver against operational plans, translate goals into deliverable actions for the team, and monitor outcomes

  12. Able to adapt to change themselves, identify challenges and solutions

  13. Able to organise, prioritise and allocate work, and effectively use resources

  14. Able to organise and manage resources, risk, and monitor project progress, adjusting as necessary, to deliver the project plan

  15. Ability to use relevant project management tools

  16. Apply organisational governance and compliance requirements

  17. Ensure there are effective budget controls in place
