Funding & Employer Commitment:
Your apprentice will need protected time away from their usual duties for off-the-job training, giving them space to develop the HR knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required by the programme. This learning complements their everyday workplace experience and helps them put new HR practices into action. You can find further guidance on off-the-job training here.
Workplace involvement is equally important. Employers should provide regular guidance, feedback and mentoring, alongside opportunities to participate in relevant HR activities. Exposure to areas such as employee queries, HR processes, records, policies and internal projects will help the apprentice develop their competence throughout the programme.
Apprenticeship Levy employers can use available levy funds towards eligible training costs. Other employers may be able to access government funding, including 2026 support such as full funding for eligible under-25s and incentives of up to £2,000 when employing apprentices aged 16–24.
For current funding rules, eligibility and employer requirements, visit the Government website.
