Event planning. Supporting events from research through to delivery and evaluation
Understanding venues and logistics. Helping to arrange venues, transport, accommodation, catering and delegate management
Client communication. Understanding briefs, expectations and feedback
Using digital platforms, databases and business software
Working effectively with clients, suppliers, stakeholders and event teams
Supporting event budgets, costs and reconciliation
Assisting teams and delegates during live events
Developing professional skills like organisation, initiative, attention to detail and working under pressure
A final EPA includes:

Recognise the different roles in event management, what they are responsible for and how they deliver successfully
Undertake their role professionally, with excellent time management and personal presentation skills
Understand the importance of event logistics and how their smooth running is essential to the event
Understand the importance of event suppliers, building positive working relationships with them
Recognise onsite event team roles and how they meet the needs of the clients and delegates
Be knowledgeable about all regulations and policies relevant to their job role and the safe running of each event

Supporting Your Event Assistant Apprentice
Employers need to provide 20% off-the-job training time, giving the apprentice protected working hours to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours they’ll need within a professional events environment. You can find further guidance on off-the-job training here.
Throughout the Event Assistant Apprenticeship, your organisation should provide ongoing guidance, practical opportunities and mentoring. Giving the apprentice exposure to real event planning and delivery will help them put their learning into practice and build the evidence required for their portfolio.
Apprenticeship Levy employers can use available levy funds towards training, while non-levy employers may be able to access government funding. Support announced for 2026 includes full funding for eligible apprentices under 25, alongside incentives of up to £2,000 when employing apprentices aged 16–24.
