Carpentry and Joinery


Level: 2 / Duration: 13 mths

An on-site carpenter prepares and installs basic building components such as doors, straight staircases, wall and floor units, erecting structural carpentry and roof structures or second fix elements on a building site or in domestic and commercial premises.

The Carpentry & Joinery apprenticeship enables you to do that initial 4 week risky stage of staff training in our well-equipped and highly controlled engineering centre where we can support health & safety understanding to a very high level whilst apprentices get to grips with the basics.

The apprentice will learn to be responsible for using machinery and tools under supervision to create structures or components from the designs, plans and specifications or architects and designers that meet the clients expectations.

The Qualification also has City & Guilds accreditation.

Assessment

The EPA assessment period takes 3 months to complete

Multiple Choice Test - 40 questions over 60 minutes
Practical Assessment with Questions - this must take 12 hours
An Interview Underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence - this assessment must take 60 minutes

Duty 1 - Work in compliance with occupational health, safety and envi-ronmental requirements to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of self and others at all times. Report in a timely manner any non-compliances against the construction programme to the appropriate person.

Duty 2 - Work to the construction programme, adapting to changes in schedule and requirements where necessary.

Duty 3 - Prepare the work site or workshop ready for the work and select materials and tools appropriate to the project.

Duty 4 - Use and maintain hand tools and power tools and associated equipment to complete task to industry standards.

Duty 5 - Collaborate with stakeholders including clients and other con-struction roles.

Duty 6 - Receive, unload, move and lift materials to site for installation following good handling practices preventing injury or damage.

Duty 7 - Maintain a clear and safe work site at all times, disposing of waste appropriately and sustainably.

Duty 8 - Carry out continuous professional development to maintain knowledge of current and future developments affecting the role.

Duty 9 - Use the appropriate tools, materials and equipment to carry out first and second fix site carpenter tasks including roofs.

Duty 10 - Carry out minor repairs or modifications.

Duty 11 - Carry out their work conforming to all current and relevant building regulations, quality standards and work instructions
