Funding & Employer Commitment:
As part of the apprenticeship, employers need to provide 20% of the apprentice’s working time for off-the-job learning. This gives them dedicated time away from their usual duties to develop the accounting knowledge, technical abilities and professional behaviours needed for the role. You can learn more about off-the-job training here.
Your finance team should also give the apprentice appropriate supervision, guidance and practical opportunities to put their learning into action. Regular support will help them build confidence, develop their accounting skills and work towards completing their portfolio to the required standard.
If your organisation pays the apprenticeship levy, you can use available levy funds towards eligible training costs. Non-levy-paying employers may also be able to access government support, including 2026 incentives such as full funding for eligible apprentices under 25 and up to £2,000 for employers recruiting apprentices aged 16–24.
